HGH comments: Werner’s entry into the naïve art world is interesting: He was stimulated by a number of friends who all offered to make paintings for a party on the occasion of a birthday as Werner was broke and had no other painting materials he sent his wife to the paint shop to buy one tube of navy and one tube of white oil paint. He then decided to make his painting blue and blue simply by mixing varying quantities of the color. This seemed to have been quite a hit, and also kept him from the next step of taking him to another colour. He was not only broke but he was scared. Until his friends gave him a paint box for his next birthday, and that really encouraged him to go further. I am grateful.

Werner Hansche’s “Woman with Bull” was a surprise package. Mr. Hansche offered it to me after an international art exhibition. He took the liberty to paint something especially for me and gave the following explanation: “Naturally I was disappointed that you didn’t buy any of the works that were at the exhibition, so I decided to create something which was a first impression work, and that was a portrait of you Mr. Hurson.” I am the male figure in the red jacket, the bull, accompanied by a lady in a yellow dress. You will be surprised that I liked it and bought it. And Hansche liked it too because he made a sale. It still has a freshness of an immediate creation and is full of up-to-date atmosphere. Thank-you Werner.
